Rebecca loves exploring the joyous, complex connection that exists in jazz & Lindy Hop by traveling to learn, perform, & share with thousands of jazz dance enthusiasts all over the world. She taught with Groove Juice Swing for more than a decade & organized Stompology, the world's first Authentic Solo Jazz Dance workshop weekend, which has blossomed for 14 years & counting. In class, she models movement freedom & creative approaches through musical complexities & cultural context.
Fun, fulfilling, and expressive dances shared between two or more people have a basis in common language and receptivity. In this class, we will lay the foundation with some dance vocab, and then practice holding space for other dancers, in order to cultivate a duo or group dynamic that leads to creative improv and interesting connection. This is a joyous dance! Come solo and expect some group movement dynamics, but not lead/follow partner dancing. No prior experience necessary.
Jazz dance evolved alongside the music during the jazz era, based on swinging rhythms & street dance culture. In this class, we'll explore some dance vocab (aka moves) and connect to rhythms & musical structure, so as dancers we can predict song progression, even if we are responding to it for the very first time. These skills can be extended to many musical genres. This is a joyous dance! Come solo & expect some group dynamics but not partner dancing. No prior dance experience necessary.
